The public sector undertakings(PSU) in India are the companies that are wholly or partially owned by the government authorities. These organisations provide vast opportunities in several technical and management areas. These opportunities can be grabbed on the basis of merit achieved in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). Mainly, three statuses are assigned to the PSUs in India,namely, maharatna PSUs, Navratna PSUs and MIni Ratna PSUs.

Some criterias are to be satisfied by the organisations in order to be qualified as a navratna,maharatna or mini- ratna psu, like high annual net profit,  net turnover rates and the investments they can make with or without government approval. ONGC, IOCL, NTPC, CIL, SAIL, BPCL, GAIL, NLC, HPCL, OIL, PGCIL, HAL, NMDC, NALCO, MDL, AAI, NPCIL are some of the PSUs. Most of the PSUs offer a pay scale of Rs 60,000 to Rs 1,80,000. Recruitment in most of the PSUs take place through GATE scores. Different companies have different cutoffs for the recruitment.

Some PSUs only consider the gate score for recruitment whereas some other PSUs use the gate score for shortlisting the candidates and then, they conduct entrance test , group discussions and interview for selecting the candidates. It depends on the company which you are applying for. You can apply for PSUs as soon as the GATE admit card is released. The PSU application procedure needs the details of your GATE registration number,  other personal and educational qualifications and details. Some of the PSU companies may also look for the educational merit as another criteria for recruitment.
